Default defenses: the character defenses of attachment-anxiety and attachment-avoidance

Abstract Contemporary attachment researchers claim that attachment-anxiety is associated with a hyperactivating defense strategy while attachment-avoidance deactivating strategy. However, to date, no study has comprehensively examined the basic patterns of specific expression in two dimensions insecurity (anxiety/avoidance). To address this research gap, current aimed assess character defenses and attachment-anxiety, incorporating broad spectrum psychological defenses. The main objective was understand what differentiates defensive functioning. In online questionnaire design ( N = 250), university undergraduates aged between 17 65 completed Experiences Close Relationship Scale (ECR) Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ-60). results show insecure exhibit different patterns. Regarding findings, uniquely predicted isolation, splitting, projective identification, anticipation, acting out , passive-aggression, reaction formation, undoing. Overall, indicate significant predictor global functioning, over above attachment-avoidance. One implication two-dimensional model adult may offer promising framework for organizing We discuss significance concerning future empirical discussion also considers clinical application relevance attachment-based psychotherapy.
